Construction is one of the highest rated industries affected by suicide.

As such, it is an industry imperative to shatter the mental health stigma and create caring cultures within our companies. The Construction Industry Alliance for Suicide Prevention was established with the goal of providing and disseminating information and resources for suicide prevention and mental health promotion in construction.

“In this male-dominated industry, the stoic, macho ‘tough guy’ culture creates barriers to seeking help and acknowledging emotional problems.” - Dr. Sally Spencer-Thomas, CEO and Co-Founder of the Carson J Spencer Foundation, clinical psychologist, mental health advocate, and survivor of her brother’s suicide.

Builders Association and CFMA held a Suicide Prevention Summit on February 1, 2017 to gain insight on this mental health issue affecting our industry (view pictures from the event). Below are some of the resources from the Summit to assist you in creating a caring work culture that actively fights to combat suicide.
