Timing Of SWA Vote Up In The Air
Letters and emails from construction companies are making a difference in the fight against reenacting the Structural Work Act. House Bill 2094 wasn't called to a vote Wednesday, partially due to the absence of some House Democrats.
According to the Builders Association's lobbyist in Springfield, it is difficult to pinpoint when exactly the Democrats would call a vote. The deadline for bills to pass to House is currently May 23, and the session is scheduled to end May 30. After that date, supporters of the bill would need even more votes.
The longer the Democrats have to wait, the less likely it is that the bill will pass both the House and the Senate. Communicating with your legislator can help decide if this legislation lives or dies. The Builders Association thanks members who have helped in the opposition by taking advantage of the talking points, tips and sample messages on the Government section of our website. There's still time to let your legislator know how the SWA would hurt your business.
