Still No Vote On SWA; Deadline Moved Again

Letters to legislators from companies like yours are making a difference when it comes to the Structural Work Act

The Illinois House of Representatives cancelled today's legislative session, meaning the week will pass without a vote on Construction Safety Act (HB 2094). However, the deadline for bills to pass the House, which had previously been extended to May 9, has been extended again - this time to Friday, May 23.

The bill hasn't been discussed in the Democratic caucus as of yet. If there is a vote, it's anticipated that it will be a close one.

Reports from the Builders Association's lobbyist indicate that HB 2094 is still a few votes shy of passing. This is due at least in part to the efforts of Builders Association members and other businesses to contact legislators and voice opposition to this redundant piece of legislation. There's still time to contact your state representative and tell him or her how this bill would have an adverse effect on your business.

Before contacting a legislator, take advantage of the talking points, tips and sample messages on the Builders Association's website. Contact Mike Schultze at 847.318.8585 with any questions.

In other legislative news, your support is sought for a badly needed, massive capital improvement project in Illinois. Illinois Works is a $25 billion capital program designed to make improvements to schools, roads, bridge, airports and transit systems. These investments will improve our quality of life and support hundreds of thousands of jobs.
