Governor Signs Statewide Construction Plan
Proceeds from video poker will provide some of the funding for the first major capital construction bill in the state of Illinois in over 10 years. Governor Pat Quinn signed the Illinois Jobs Now! Program into law Monday. The plan calls for over $30 billion in capital spending.
House Bill 312 and Senate Bill 1221 - which included projects to be funded by the program - were just two of seven bills signed by the Governor during the press conference at Marshall High School. The other dealt with funding and bonding measures for the projects.
The state legislature passed plans for the capital bill nearly two months ago, but the bill was held up in political wrangling as the Governor insisted on having a budget passed before any construction bill. He softened his stance late last week.
