Recognition and Awards

Since the Builders Association was founded in 1906, its members have developed and maintained reputations for building great structures, strong safety programs and involvement in the national construction industry. Several representatives of Association members serve on AGC of America committees, and Association President Al Leitschuh has been named Chair-Elect of the AGC's Executive Leadership Council for 2008-09.

Community Builder Award

The Community Builder Award was instituted at the Builders Association's 100th Anniversary Annual Meeting in 2006. Award winners are recognized for their vision and leadership in creating employment opportunities for disadvantaged citizens and for their dedication to making the Chicago area a better place to live and do business. Past honorees include:

  • 2006: Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley
  • 2006: Eddie Read, United Services of Chicago
  • 2007: Illinois Senate President Emil Jones Jr.

Safety Awards

Instituted in 1999, the Builders Association Safety Awards Program has honored over 50 companies for excellent safety programs and year-to-year improvement. Awards are handed out every year at the Spring Meeting.

Valenti Builders and Tyler Lane Construction have won eight Safety Awards each, followed by Glenn H. Johnson Construction Company and Lawdensky Construction Company with six each. Valenti Builders and McShane Construction Corporation have each won three Best of Class Awards.
